If there is one thing we know about WeChat (except for just being a multipurpose chatting social media), it’s the fact it is one of the most famous payment app in China, also known as WeChat Pay. And you know what? Malaysian will be able to use it very soon! Are you as excited as we are?
Reports says that WeChat Pay is expected to roll out in June, and here is what you should do:
- Both Android and iOS users would need to update the latest version of the WeChat app through Google Play Store or iOS App Store.
- Once you’re in the app, under ‘Me’ section, you can access your e-wallet by tapping on the wallet logo.
- In the Pay Centre, select Malaysia as the current location in the regional settings.
- Add your debit card details, yes WeChat Pay now accepts any Malaysian bank debit cards, set your payment pin and top up balance into your account.
Once you’re done and you see your balance amount shown in your app, you’re good to go! Malaysian will be able to enjoy Quick Pay within the app, where making payment is as easy as scanning the merchant’s QR code.
Malaysia is the first country outside of China to receive WeChat Pay in our local currency. And with around 20 million registered WeChat users, we hope this will bring us closer to the cashless era.
